Food security

On 15 July 2020, Dorcas Creation held two demonstrations on how to set up an organic kitchen garden, at Exodus Faith Church Marurui and at Christ Liberation Center Marurui. The aim of this exercise was to bring about food security to the vulnerable as relying on donations like the charity basket was not a sustainable solution. Giving a health talk on nutrition, Mrs. Irene Mathenge, the trainer, outlined the importance of the demonstrations in empowering the community to ensure that there is Food Always In the Home (F.A.I.T.H), savings on available finances and accessibility of healthy food for the families.  Mr. Paul Muniu a landscaper, displayed and engaged  the people of Marurui in  practical ways in which they could use organic farming to set up a kitchen garden in their homes. A total of 29 people were empowered.

For ease of coordination, the pastors formed a secretariat  known as the Nehemiah Strategy that meets on a regular basis.  This church partnership has been very key in our COVID-19 response efforts through which we have been able to provide food to most vulnerable families and psychological first aid (PFA) as well.  Further, the pastors have also received training on transformed world view, economic empowerment, and they in turn use the knowledge acquired to empower their members.
